Late next month, or certainly by the time Christmas rolls around we, in New England, will be in the midst of ski season and if you have school age family members who would like to learn the sport, this is the time to do it.
Just up Route 9 in Henniker, Pats Peak is a first rate family ski mountain, close to Keene, easy to get to up Route 9, and offering some of the best ski opportunities is the area. They are also a first rate teaching facility and registration for their Learn To Ski and Ride Program has opened for all skill levels ages 6 to 17. Pats Peak has 300 teachers and they use the American Teaching System, a method used by the PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) and AASI (American Association of Snowboard Instructors), a proven method for developing and refining skills.
Learn to Ski and Ride programs are specifically designed for people who think that the sport might be fun but who have just never got past the jitters of learning a new sport. Pats Learn to Ski and Ride Program is set up for pre-scheduled groups and will be held on the mountain over a five week period. For students, Pats has arranged with several local schools and recreation department to handle initial registration. More than 100 schools participate in the Pats Peak ski program. While the Town of Sullivan is the only town signed up in Cheshire County you can also sign up with Pats Peak directly.
The program will be held in two five week sessions. Sign up for the first session has a deadline of November 15, the second program signup deadline is December 15. Participants who sign up for the first session will have five weeks of lessons on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays with the first lesson starting on January 2, 2018. The second session will be held on Thursdays and Fridays with the first lesson beginning on February 15, 2018. Youngsters must be at least 6 years old by January 1, 2018. The upper limit for eligibility is age 17.
Students enrolled in the program will receive an hour of instruction from a fully qualified instructor and will also receive a full day all mountain lift ticket for each day. Classes are limited to 12 students. Reasonably priced equipment rentals are available for the duration of the program or for the balance of the season. The price of the Learn to Ski and Ride program is a bargain, $170 for the five week course.
To sign your student up online, contact Pats Peak online or (603) 428-3245 x112. Another side benefit is that discounted weekday parent tickets and frequent user cards are available in case you want to get in a few runs while your student is taking lessons. Or, perhaps it is time for you to learn to ski as well!
